E-mail Print

Woodbridge Township Mayor John E. McCormac, along with the members and volunteers of the Avenel-Colonia First Aid Squad and the Avenel Board of Fire Commissioners, today unveiled a $10,000 REHAB Emergency Operations Tent & Command Center that will increase the Township’s response capabilities to emergency management operations.

“Public safety is the most important responsibility of municipal government. I’m pleased to announce that the foresight of the Avenel Board of Fire Commissioners and the Avenel-Colonia First Aid Squad in obtaining a new, mobile emergency operations shelter will greatly assist all Township emergency responders as they arrive on the scene of a disaster or emergency event. The REHAB facility is now available to serve the emergency needs of the residents of Avenel, Colonia and the entire Township,” said Mayor McCormac.

The Avenel Board of Fire Commissioners and the Avenel-Colonia First Aid Squad used available resources to purchase the $10,000 REHAB Emergency Operations Tent and Command Center . The portable, weather-resistant shelter can be transported to any emergency response location in the Township and will provide emergency responders with a command center location, emergency medical triage facility, or other emergency response purpose. In 2009, the Avenel-Colonia FAS and the Board of Fire Commissioners jointly purchased a REHAB Emergency Response vehicle which provides for fully-equipped response and support at emergency response incidents.

The 20x12 foot mobile shelter, along with the newly refurbished and fully-equipped emergency response truck, upgrades the Avenel-Colonia First Aid Squad’s capability to respond to emergency management, medical, and general response calls for service. The REHAB tent will be available to the Woodbridge Township Office of Emergency Management and to other fire and first aid squads throughout the Township.

Joining Mayor McCormac to unveil the REHAB shelter were Avenel-Colonia First Aid Squad Captain Carmen Parisio, Assistant Captain Wayne Tasaki, and First Aid Squad members. Avenel Board of Fire Commissioners Dean Manente, John Mitch, Earl Runkel, Bruce Mizak, and Andrew Mazzarella, along with Avenel Fire Chief Chris Neroda, Avenel Fire Official Cory Spillar, and Woodbridge Township Office of Emergency Management Director Pat Kenny also attend the announcement.
